このたびリーハイ大学出版より刊行された Anthologizing Poe: Editions, Translations, and (Trans)National Canonsは、以前に CPAでご紹介した Translated Poeと同様（詳細はこちら）、シリーズ “Perspectives on Edgar Allan Poe” に属する一冊です。アンソロジストも翻訳者も “image makers”であるという André Lefevereの理念を軸に、ポーがその死後およそ 170年以上にわたって編集、撰集、翻訳、翻案されてきた諸相をあらためて検証することで、ポー研究に新たな光を投げかけます。
全体四部構成。第一部は、ポーが生きた同時代 1840年代を主軸に、ポーが読者と自分をどう捉え／或いはどう捉えられていたのかを探ります。第二部は、その歴史的射程より、ポー以後のアンソロジー—19世紀後半＆ 20世紀版／英国版／ポータブル版＆大学教科書版—を分析し、第三部はかわってアンソロジーの「ジャンル」に焦点を絞り、SF／探偵小説／（極めて 21世紀的な）オーディオブック／詩の切り口からポーの多様な姿を照射します。最後の第四部は、国境横断的な射程より、フランス／イギリス／スペイン／アルゼンチン／そして日本におけるアンソロジーの有様が詳述されます。
本書最終章を飾る巽先生の論考 “Editing and Anthologizing Poe in Japan”は、ポー作品とのファースト・コンタクトであったというリトールド版子供向け作品『ゆうれい船』を議論の出発点に、明治期から 21世紀現代の先生ご自身も貫く日本におけるポー作品の創造的受容史（編集＆撰集）を浮かびあがらせます。ご関心のある方は、ぜひご一読ください！
