大串尚代氏がマサチューセッツにて講演会

大串尚代氏（本塾文学部助手、ファイブ・カレッジ女性学研究所研究員）による講演会が11月28日に行われます。 “A Stolen Story: Hannah Adams and Unitarian Controversy”Lecture by Hisayo Ushioda, Keio University (in English). Ushioda’s study focuses on the controversy between a late eighteenth-century female historian, Hannah Adams, and her contemporary, Jedidiah Morse, in light of Morse’s allegedly plagiarism of Adams’s A Summary History of New England (1804). Ushioda will examine the significance of writing the history of New England for both Adams and Morse, how the religious differences between Unitarianism and Calvinism were involved with this controversy, and how the controversy reflects gender issues in women’s writing.
